A Handmade Mother's Day

The funk has lifted! I am, once again, spending some quality time with Ol' Bess (my sewing machine) and man, oh man, am I loving what we've been creating!
I have been BUSILY SPINNING 'round and 'round, making the two mommas in my life (my own mom and my MIL) things that I hope convey the love and respect I have for each of them.
Since I have NOT given my momma her gift yet, I can not share what I made her. I know you're checking to see if I'll put it up mom...HA! I told you I wouldn't...you're just gonna hafta wait :).

For my MIL I made a set of handmade (ahem, Cricut cut) cards for a variety of occasion. You know, "Get Well Soon", "Thank you", " Happy Birthday"etc...I will post those later. Hub bought her a nice potted flower...called the Stephanotis flower. I had never heard of it, but it is so beautiful!

But today I want to share the tote/purse I made her. Sorry for the picture quality, this were taken with my phone. I call it "The Lucia Bag".

My MIL's name is Lucia, but my boys (all her grandchildren, actually) call her "Lita", as in "abuelita" in Spanish. Anyway, I like that the "L" has dual meaning :).

The deets...The brown fabric is an old maternity pants that never got worn, but I bought when preggers for 4 BUCKS at Old Navy (gonna make shorts for the summer with the left over! yay!), the white fabric is a heavy cotton from a thrifted (in PERFECT condition) bed sheet from this post. And the Sage Green is from thrifted fabric I found. Isn't it so beautiful? Expect to see a lot of it. I am in LOVE with that fabric annnnnnddddd.....I have about 5 yards left! (BTW, 6.5 yards cost me, oh I don't know...$4!!) Oh, and the interior fabric is a fat quarter (and a half) that I bought at Michael's ages ago. I think I paid like, $2 for each. I loved it so much, but never had the right coordinating fabric or project to use it, I am loving it as the lining for the bag, though!

Because I made the tote LATE at night (I couldn't help it! It was when inspiration finally hit!) I do not have a tutorial for you. HOWEVER, I am sooo in love with this particular pattern, that I want one for me-self. Which means, I  have to make another. Oh, darn it :). I will take tons of pics for a tute for you, my lovely sweet friends.

I hope all you mommies had a wonderful Mother's Day! I know I did! I actually had a double whammy of goodness, love and blessing...my b-day was Friday ( I turned 26), so I celebrated with my folks on Saturday and then Sunday was Mother's Day. Phew!

I know I am blessed. Truthfully, what made this weekend so great was to see all the love from the ppl I love MOST. Sometimes, as a mommy we're so busy loving that we forget to get a little of it for ourselves. But on weekends like this, when people go out of their way to make you cakes and give you surprise get-togethers and just BE with you, well, it makes me so happy and makes me feel so BLESSED and loved that it brings me to tears. Thank you, to all of you, who made me smile from ear to ear...you rock :)

Sorry about the extra long post. I've missed you guys! I'm so happy to be back to the swing of things!
